The Homer hockey team wrapped up the End of the Road Shootout championship Saturday in Homer with a 10-3 victory over Soldotna.

Homer finished 3-0 at the round-robin tournament, with Isaiah Nevak scoring four goals against the Stars. Soldotna and Houston, which toppled Bartlett on Saturday 4-2, both finished 1-1-1 at the tourney, with the Hawks taking second on goals allowed.

Soldotna coach Indy Walton said in a text message that the Stars got off to a slow start against the Mariners, then ran out of gas at the end after his young team was playing for a third straight day.

The slow start came when Homer scored four goals in the first 5 minutes, 14 seconds, of the game. The goals came from Nevak, Spencer Warren, Tim Blakely and Phin Weston.

However, Alex Montague also lit the lamp in the first five minutes of the Stars. Then Soldotna won the second period, with Galen Brantley III and Montague scoring to make it 4-3.

But Nevak slammed the door shut in the third period, scoring three times in the first six minutes of the period. Tyler Gilliland then scored twice and JJ Williamson added a tally to finish off Soldotna.

Hunter Warren had 19 saves for the Mariners, while Corbin Wirz and McKenzie Powell combined to make 41 saves for the Stars.

Homer 5, Bartlett 2

The Mariners moved to 2-0 at their End of the Road Shootout with a Friday victory over the Golden Bears.

Bartlett’s Mark Abrego had the lone goal of the first period, but Spencer Warren and Phin Weston scored to put Homer up 2-1 in the second. The Golden Bears fought back to even on a tally by Andrew Vandenbos, but with just 1 minute, 14 seconds, left in the second period, Tyler Gilliland put the Mariners ahead to stay.

Isaiah Nevak put the game away for Homer with a pair of third-period strikes.

Connor Roderick had 23 saves for Homer, while Chad Beals stopped 47 for Bartlett.

Soldotna 3, Houston 3

With the Friday tie, the Stars are 1-0-1 in the tourney, while the Hawks are 0-1-1.

Houston’s Austin Zweifel started the scoring in the back-and-forth affair with a goal with 8:07 left in the first, but Braxton Urban answered at 3:37 for Soldotna. Just 14 seconds later, Zweifel was celebrating again as the Hawks ended the first period up 2-1.

SoHi came back to take a 3-2 lead after two on goals by Galen Brantley III and Alex Montague.

But with 10:31 to play, Noah Gillespie drew the Hawks even. Neither side would score in overtime.

Corbin Wirz had 25 saves for SoHi, while Rylee Bollinder stopped 23 for the Hawks.
