Homer, Kenai football receive Division III All-State awards

Players on the Homer High School and Kenai Central High School varsity football teams were selected for Division III football awards last week.

The Mariners took their second straight Division III state title earlier this month in the championship game against Barrow.

Homer High senior and quarterback CJ Burns was named Offensive Player of the Year. Head football coach Justin Zank was named Coach of the Year, and Bryan Harter was awarded Assistant Coach of the Year.

Other Homer and Kenai players were selected for 1st Team All-State, 2nd Team All-State and All-State Honorable Mentions.

Soldotna’s Tania Boonstra took first place for the girls’ division, leading her team to victory at the meet. The Homer girls’ varsity team placed second overall.
