The visiting Homer football team defeated Redington 26-0 on Friday in the Mid Alaska Conference opener for both teams.
The Mariners move to 4-0 overall, while the Huskies are 2-2.
Homer now has shutouts in its last three games and has given up just eight points this season.
Redington had scored a total of 90 points in its last two games with a pass-heavy attack that floods the field with receivers.
“I’m really proud of them, given everything that we threw at them in preparation for this game — completely new coverage, completely new defense, moved guys around,” Homer head coach Justin Zank said. “We asked a lot of them mentally and I’m really proud of the guys for stepping up the way they did tonight.
“They executed perfectly, and they did it with physicality.”
Zank highlighted safeties Jayden Sims and CJ Burns, cornerback Justus Grimes, linebackers Nikifor Reutov and Vincent Black, and linemen Donovan Milstead, Tristyn Bridges and Dawson Stokes.
“All these wins are team wins,” Zank said. “It’s hard to highlight just one or two guys.”
The Redington defense came to play, too. Homer led 6-0 at the half on a first-quarter touchdown pass from Burns to Michael Farmer.
“It took awhile for the offense to get going, but in the second half, we were able to run the ball effectively and run out that clock,” Zank said.
Grimes put the Mariners up 12-0 in the third quarter on a scoring run.
In the fourth quarter, Nik Macauley scored twice on rushing touchdowns to salt away the game, while Grimes added a conversion on a run.
Running back Joaquin Jackson has been out the past two weeks. Zank said Macauley has done a nice job filling in, particularly with his running in the second half Friday.
Homer hosts Houston in conference action at 2 p.m. Saturday. The Mariners topped the Hawks 64-8 in nonconference action in Week 1.
“They’re much improved and they always play hard,” Zank said. “They’re going to be a different team than we saw in Week 1 for sure.”
