Hale wins 30-lap A Stock feature at Skylar Thomas Lyon Memorial

Jimmie Hale won the 30-lap A Stock feature Sunday, July 7, at Twin City Raceway in Kenai.

The A Stock Dirty Thirty was originally supposed to be Saturday, July 6, but that event was rolled to the next day when Saturday’s racing was canceled due to the rain.

Also winning features were Alex Schwochert for Late Models, Josh Boone for Legends, Jonathan Voight for Mini Stock, Cole Petersen for Modifieds and Clifford Barney for Sprints.

Although the rain did cost racing fans a day of racing Saturday, it did lead to a fuller lineup Sunday.

Thunder Valley Speedway in Willow did not have racing Saturday or Sunday due to rain, so some of those drivers came down to Twin City Raceway instead.

Included in that group were the Sprint drivers.

Sunday’s races were in memory of Skylar Thomas Lyon, who died at 14 in 2020 due to a 4-wheeler accident.

The Dollar stocks, or the racers that compete in a smaller oval in the center of the track, were important to Lyon, so a tribute was read about Lyon before each of the Dollar stocks races.

Dollar stocks do not have a roll cage, so they are viewed as a cheaper and fun way to get into racing. There were four Dollar stock cars at Sunday’s races.

Racing continues at Twin City Raceway on Saturday, July 20, with the Powder Puff races. Gates open at 2 p.m., time trials are at 3 p.m. and the races start at 5 p.m.
