“I’m happy with how we played,” SoHi head coach Luke Baumer said in a text message after Friday’s match. “Even though we lost all three sets, we were hanging with them the entire time.”

Sadie Lane had 11 digs for the Stars, while Veronica Crane had 10. Sarah Brown had 25 assists, while Morgan Simac had 11 kills and Lane added six.

Brown, Cassidy Kruse and Abygale Schaeffer had three blocks apiece, while Lane had four aces.

Baumer wrote in a text message that the Warriors did well in the serve game to control Saturday’s match.

“We had difficulties with our serve and receive game today,” he wrote. “Wasilla came out with strong serves, and we struggled to control the ball well enough to set up our offense.”

The Stars also take pride in being a strong serving team, but had an off night there Saturday.

“Additionally, we missed too many serves, with an ace-to-miss ratio that wasn’t in our favor,” Baumer wrote. “We recorded five aces but had nine missed serves.”

Crane led with 15 digs, while Brown had 12. Brown also added 14 assists.

Lane had five kills, while Kruse had four. Kruse also had five blocks, while Hallie Fischer had four. Simac had two of the aces.

“It was great to be back in front of our home crowd, the energy was amazing,” Homer head coach Ian Overson wrote in a text message.

Saturday, Overson wrote the Mariners had a larger crowd than normal for senior day, which made for a fun match.

Trowbridge had nine aces in the match, while Caitlyn Rogers had four aces. Brightly Thoning had four blocks, while Lowney had 11 kills and Gracie Miotke had 10 kills. Trowbridge also added 26 assists.
