Friday softball: SoHi sweeps Redington; Kenai, Homer suffer road losses

The visiting Soldotna softball team swept Redington by scores of 14-2 and 20-5 on Friday in Northern Lights Conference action.

SoHi improved to 3-0 in the league and 6-2-1 overall.

The 14-2 game went five innings. Isabelle Cruz went the distance, giving up two runs — one earned — on two hits while walking six and striking out 10.

At the plate, Tatum Cooper was 3 for 4 with three runs and three RBIs, Alyssa McDonald was 3 for 4 with three runs and two RBIs, Isabelle Cruz was 3 for 3 with two runs and three RBIs, Joscelynn Carson was 2 for 3 with a run and three RBIs, and Bella Gares had two runs.

The 20-5 game went four innings. Bekah Pieh went the distance, allowing five runs — four earned — on a hit while walking eight and fanning seven.

Cooper was 4 for 4 with three runs and six RBIs, Gares had three RBIs, Kacey Cunningham was 2 for 3 with a run and two RBIs, Aliya Blough had three runs, Izzy Jones was 2 for 2 with two runs and an RBI, Lilly Dawley was 2 for 2 with three runs and an RBI, Riley Whitehead had three runs, and Hayley Hanson was 2 for 2 with three runs and two RBIs.

Houston 10, Homer 3

The visiting Mariners took a Northern Lights Conference loss to the Hawks on Friday to fall to 0-3 in the league and 2-7 overall. The game went five innings.

Keagan Niebuhr pitched all five for the Mariners, with half of the runs being earned. Niebuhr gave up seven hits and walked six while striking out two.

Jessica Plumlee was 2 for 3 with two runs and an RBI, while Amanda Toci was 1 for 2 with an RBI.

Kenai swept in Anchorage

The visiting Kardinals took a pair of nonconference losses Friday — 10-0 to South and 17-1 to Chugiak. Kenai’s record is 5-5.

The lost to South went 4 1-2 innings. Lola McEwen went the distance for Kenai and six of the runs she allowed were earned. The Wolverines got to her for 13 hits. The Kardinals did not collect a hit.

The loss to Chugiak went three innings. Blakeley Jorgensen went the distance and four of the runs she allowed were earned. She gave up eight hits and walked eight.

Kayani Whicker was 1 for 2 with a run for Kenai, while Caitlyn Crapps was 1 for 2, Seylor Tomrdle was 1 for 1 and Avery Ellis had an RBI.
