Friday Bash on the Bay: Chugiak goes 5-0 in round-robin play

The Chugiak softball team is 5-0 after two days of round-robin play at the Bash on the Bay tournament in Homer.

Also, Soldotna is 4-1, Bartlett is 3-2, Kenai Central is 2-3, Homer is 1-4 and Redington is 0-5.

Saturday’s games are based on the results of Thursday and Friday. Saturday play starts with Redington taking on Kenai Central at 9 a.m. and Homer taking on Bartlett at 9 a.m.

Friday, Soldotna defeated Kenai 5-2, defeated Bartlett 9-0 and defeated Redington 8-4 to move to 13-4-1 overall.

The game against Kenai went four innings, with SoHi’s Kathryn DeBardelaben pitching all four and giving up two runs — one earned — on five hits with seven strikeouts.

For SoHi, Alyssa McDonald was 3 for 3 with a run and three RBIs, while DeBardelaben was 2 for 2 with an RBI.

Avery Ellis went all four for Kenai, yielding five runs on 10 hits. Caitlyn Crapps was 2 for 3 with a run for the Kards.

The game against Bartlett went four innings, with Isabelle Cruz going the distance and shutting out the Golden Bears on two hits.

For SoHi, Isabella Gares was 3 for 3 with two runs and an RBI, Cruz was 2 for 3 with two runs and an RBI, and McDonald was 2 for 2 with a run and three RBIs.

The Redington game went three innings, with Bekah Pieh giving up four runs — two earned — in two innings, and Cruz finishing with a scoreless inning.

Tatum Cooper had a home run for Soldotna, while Kacey Cunningham was 3 for 3 with two runs and two RBIs, DeBardelaben was 2 for 3 with two RBIs, and Lilly Dawley was 2 for 2 with three RBIs.

In addition to losing to SoHi on Friday, Kenai topped Redington 6-5 and Homer 11-7 to move to 8-9 overall.

The Redington game went just 2 1-2 innings, with Kenai scoring five in the bottom of the first to take command.

Kennah Gregory gave up two runs in 2 2-3 innings for Kenai, while Jessie Johnson gave up three runs in one-third inning. EmmaLee Elordi scored twice for the Kards.

The Homer game went three innings, with Kenai scoring five in the first and six in the second.

Lola McEwen pitched all three for Kenai, giving up seven runs — four earned.

For the Kards, Kailey Stynsberg had two runs, Avery Ellis was 2 for 3 with two runs, Seylor Tomrdle was 2 for 3 with two runs and three RBIs, Blakeley Jorgensen was 2 for 2 with two runs and three RBIs, Avia Miller was 2 for 3 with two runs, Isabel Thomas had two runs and McEwen was 2 for 3.

For Homer, Keagan Niebuhr gave up six runs in 2 1-3 innings. Natalie Hinsberger was 2 for 3, while Amanda Toci had two runs.

In addition to the loss to Kenai, Homer lost 18-0 to Bartlett and 13-0 to Chugiak to fall to 4-12 overall.

The game against Bartlett went two innings. Amakah Stineff had the lone hit for the Mariners.

The game against Chugiak went 3 1-2 innings. Niebuhr and Stella Condon had the hits for Homer.
