Friday baseball: Homer, Soldotna notch conference wins

The visiting Soldotna baseball team defeated Kodiak 13-1 in five innings on Friday in Northern Lights Conference play.

The Stars move to 5-1 in the league and 8-9-2 overall.

Three SoHi pitchers combined to hold the Bears to a run.

Brenden Theel went the first three innings and gave up a run on two hits while walking five and striking out five.

Malakai BeDunnah worked a perfect inning, while Jack Harper worked an inning and gave up only a hit.

The Stars led 6-1 entering the fifth inning and put up seven runs to enact the mercy rule.

Wyatt Gagnon was 2 for 4 with two runs and two RBIs for SoHi, while Jayden Stuyvesant was 2 for 2 with a run and an RBI.

Also, Jett Brophy had three stolen bases, Jackson Koetitz had three runs, Brett Hostetler had two runs, Colby Sturman had two RBIs and Harper had two RBIs.

Homer 11, Grace Christian 1

The host Mariners needed only five innings to move to 3-4 in the NLC and 8-6 overall. Homer led 9-0 after the first two innings.

Clyde Clemens shut the Grizzlies out in the first four innings on three hits and eight strikeouts. Preston Stanislaw pitched the last inning, allowing an unearned run on no hits and two walks.

CJ Burns had three runs and three RBIs for Homer, while Cohen Boyd had two runs and two RBIs. Clemens also added a pair of runs for the Mariners.
