Football: Nikiski pops Voz, Seward tops Valdez

The Bulldogs cruised to a 45-0 rout of Greatland Conference rival Voznesenka Saturday at Nikiski High School.

Nikiski racked up 221 rushing yards overall with a balanced running game, led by Corin Cooper with 73 yards on eight carries. Christian Riddall added 65 rushing yards and Dylan Jackson had 54. Riddall had a touchdown run of 14 yards and two receiving touchdowns of 45 and 46 yards.

Nikiski quarterback Cade Anderson completed nine of 14 pass attempts for 264 yards and three touchdowns.

Nikiski streaked out to a 25-0 lead after one quarter, starting with a 53-yard pass from Anderson to Hunter Holloway just over three minutes into the game.

Luke Johnson added a touchdown on a 25-yard fumble return, then added a 26-yard interception return in the second quarter. Johnson has scored four touchdowns on defensive turnovers in the last two games.

The win puts Nikiski (3-1 GLC, 4-1 overall) in good position entering the final three weeks of the season.

Seward 46, Valdez 6

The Seahawks won their third straight game to solidly put themselves in contention for a small-schools playoff spot, Saturday in Valdez.

Seward (3-1 GLC, 4-2 overall) currently holds the fourth and final postseason spot in the conference standings.
