Colony track and field teams sweep Homer Invitational

The Colony girls and boys track and field teams swept the Homer Invitational on Friday at Homer High School.

On the boys side, the Knights scored 185 points for the win, while Soldotna was runner-up at 148 and Homer was third at 108. Also from the peninsula, Seward was sixth, Kenai Central was seventh, Nikiski was eighth and Ninilchik tied for 10th.

The Colony girls scored 171.5 points to defeat runner-up Soldotna’s 164. Homer was third with 118, while Seward was fifth and Kenai was seventh.

Tyce Escott and Ethan Anding both had big meets to lead the Stars to second place.

Escott won the 100 meters in 11.57 seconds and the 200 in 23.65. He also teamed with Wyatt Faircloth, Brendon Jones and James Innes to take the 800 relay in 1:35.45.

Anding won the 400 in 53.11. He teamed with Michael Davidson, Innes and Paxton Roach to win the 1,600 relay in 3:39.13, and joined with Ollie Dahl, Davidson and Jayden Yeager to nab the 3,200 relay in 8:47.00.

The Stars also received individual wins from Faircloth in the long jump at 19 feet, .75 inches, and from Luke Miller in the shot put at 50—10.

Johannes Bynagle led Homer to third place with a pair of individual wins. Bynagle won the 800 in 2:04.03 and the 1,600 in 4:35.71. Also for Homer, Tait Ostrom won the 300 hurdles in 45.86.

Olin Liljemark got an individual win for Seward in the high jump at 5—10.

For Kenai, Matthew Krol won the 110 hurdles at 18.55 and Chase Laker captured the 2,000 steeplechase in 6:50.62.

The steeple uses barriers made by Homer coach Bob Ostrom, but naturally there is no water pit in the Homer track.

On the girls side, Homer’s Gracie Miotke had a big meet to lead the Mariners to third. Miotke won the 100 hurdles in 16.89 and the 300 hurdles in 48.41.

Miotke also anchored teammates Jaelynn Kennon, Molly Evans and Immi Im to victory in 52.03 in the 400 relay.

For SoHi, Sarah Brown won the 100 in 13.75. She also ran the anchor leg and won the 800 relay in 1:50.69 along with teammates Shiloh Zichko, Sasha Brott and Lucy Uhlir.

The Stars also won the 1,600 relay, with Zichko, Brott, Annie Burns and Kathryn DeBardelaben running 4:16.78.

Hallie Fischer also notched a win in the long jump for Soldotna with a mark of 15—4.5.

Willow Graham won the discus for Kenai with a toss of 106—11.

Ryder Maguire led Nikiski by finishing third in the 1,600 at 4:56.16 and fourth in the 800 at 2:11.07.

SoHi hockey won the End of the Road tournament in Homer and the wrestling team gained 20 individual wins.
