Chris Lipe of the Kenai River Brown Bears was named to the North American Hockey League Midwest Division All-Rookie Team on Monday.

The teams are selected by the league’s head coaches. Rookies are those that played in no junior league prior to the 2016-17 season, and those having played less than 10 NAHL regular-season games.

Lipe was the Bears’ first pick in the draft before this season. He finished fourth on the team, and first among defensemen, with 22 points — four goals and 18 assists. The 6-foot-1, 185-pound right-hander is 17 and has three years of junior eligibility left.
