Area cross-country athletes compete in Anchorage, Palmer

The Colony girls and Grace Christian boys won the George Plumley Invite on Saturday at Palmer High School, with Sitka’s Clare Mullin and Grace Christian’s Robbie Annett winning the individual titles.

The Knights girls scored 48 points, with Seward taking second at 71. The Seahawks are the two-time defending Division II state champs, and their big Division II rival Sitka was third at 94. Also from the peninsula, Homer was fifth.

The Grace boys won with 64, while fellow Division II rival Homer was second with 75. Also from the peninsula, Kenai was 11th and Seward was 12th.

Mullin won at 19 minutes, 33 seconds, while Colony’s Ella Hopkins was second at 19:41. Seward’s Olive Jordan made it into the top 10 at seventh.

Annett ran 16:04, while fellow Grace runner was second at 16:39. Homer had Johannes Bynagle at third and Caleb Bunker at seventh in the top 10.

Seward girls sweep titles at Mountain City Class Challenge

The Seward girls swept the titles at the Mountain City Class Challenge on Friday in Anchorage.

The Seahawks won the freshman-sophomore race with 23 points, while Grace Christian had 32. Freshman Olive Jordan won the 3,200-meter race at 12:33 to lead Seward.

Seward won the junior-senior race with 41 points. Homer also had 41, but lost the tiebreaker. Beatrix McDonough led Homer in second, while Katie Van Buskirk was third for the Seahawks.

Grace won the freshman-sophomore boys race, with freshman Ollie Dahl finishing second to lead the Stars to second place.

Grace also won the junior-senior boys race. Johannes Bynagle was third to lead the Mariners to second place.
