Area cagers compete in Senior All-Star games

The Alaska Association of Basketball Coaches held its Senior All-Star games at Dimond High School in Anchorage on Saturday.

In the Class 3A/4A boys game, Soldotna’s Joe Weltzin and Homer’s Sheldon Hutt and Jaruby Nelson participated.

Nelson helped the Blue squad to a 100-92 victory. He had 13 points on 6-of-13 shooting from the floor. For the Yellow team, Weltzin had nine points on 3-of-6 shooting, while Hutt had four points, making both of his shots.

In the Class 3A/4A girls game, Kenai Central’s Allie Ostrander, Soldotna’s Hayley Ramsell and Haley Miller, and Seward’s Kiana Clemens and Jasmine Perea took the floor.

Ramsell, Miller and Perea were on the Yellow team that defeated the Blue 64-59. Ramsell had three points, Miller had three points and Perea had seven points.

For the Blue squad, Ostrander went scoreless, while Clemens dumped in 10 points.

Class 1A/2A games were added to the mix this year. In the Class 1A/2A boys game, Seldovia’s Seth O’Leary represented the Peninsula. O’Leary helped the Yellow team to a 80-70 victory over the Blue with four points.

In the Class 1A/2A girls game, Nikolaevsk’s Kilina Klaich and Cook Inlet Academy’s Ashleigh Hammond and Madison Orth took the floor. The Yellow team, with contributions from Orth and Klaich, won 99-66. Orth had eight points, while Klaich added six points. Hammond had six points for the Blue squad.
