Aldridge, Helminiak take FFS triathlon

Morgan Aldridge and Jeff Helminiak won a kind-of triathlon to end the Freezer Food Series on Sunday at Slikok Trails.

Competitors could choose to make their way around Slikok Trails three times in any manner they chose, with time adjustments made for chosen mode of travel.

Aldridge did ski/bike/ski to lead all women by finishing at 55 minutes, 14 seconds. Kelli Boonstra was second using snowshoe/ski/ski to finish at 56:37, while Jen Showalter was third doing bike/bike/bike to finish at 1:15:36.

Helminiak did ski/ski/ski to finish at 44:41, while Todd Boonstra did snowshoe/ski/ski to finish at 47:15 and Tony Eskelin did ski/bike/run to finish at 48:59.

Landen Showalter was the lone youth racer, doing bike/bike/bike to finish at 1:15:33.

The Freezer Food Series used 12 races of running, biking or skiing, plus the kind-of triathlon, to raise money for the Kenai Peninsula Food Bank.

Aldridge was the overall series champion, while Helminiak was second and Mike Crawford was third.
