4 area riders compete in Iron Dog

Four area riders competed in the Iron Dog, a 2,500-mile snowmachine race that started Feb. 15 and ended Saturday, Feb. 22.

The race started in Big Lake, traveled to Nome and then returned to Big Lake.

The race was won by Bradley George of Wasilla and Robby Schachle of Big Lake. The duo checked in to Big Lake at 10:28 a.m. Saturday with a course time of 53 hours, 32 minutes and 56 seconds.

Bradley Kishbaugh, 26, of Soldotna and Mike Morgan, 39, of Nome finished fourth with a course time of 58:45:56.

Kishbaugh has now finished in the top six in his last four Iron Dogs, while Morgan was unable to add to his two wins.

Chad Moore, 42, of Sterling and Cody Barber, 31, of Willow finished eighth. The duo finished with a course time of 58:45:56.

Moore improved on his previous best finish of 12th in 2023, while Barber did not add to his win in 2024.

Tad Covault, 45, of Soldotna and Trent Johnson, 44, of Hayward, Wisconsin, finished 15th with a course time of 96:24:35.

Covault also finished 15th in 2023, while Johnson was making his rookie run in the Iditarod.

Cory Davis, 36, of Soldotna and Wes Selby, 39, of Grand Lake, Colorado, scratched in Galena on the trail headed north.

Davis had won the Iron Dog in 2017. Davis is the son of seven-time Iron Dog winner Scott Davis of Soldotna.

Scott Davis was inducted into the Snowmobile Hall of Fame and Museum in St. Germain, Wisconsin, in a three-day celebration from Feb. 13 to 15.
