Kenai police are searching for 34-year-old Iva “Mitzi” Berninger, a Kenai resident reported missing by a neighbor from her Gill Street apartment, where she was last seen on Dec. 11.
“She has some friends who are concerned she hasn’t turned home when she should have been,” said Kenai Police Lieutenant David Ross.
Ross said the neighbor reported Berninger’s disappearance to police on Dec. 15. Ross said police do not know what Berninger was wearing, nor do they know of any employment she had.
“We have investigators looking for her,” Ross said. “Officers (are) also looking in some locations she is known to have been to or to frequent… Investigators are following up with whatever leads they can generate.”
Ross said there is presently no evidence of homicide.
“We’ve been to the residence, there’s not an indication at the residence that foul play was involved, but that doesn’t necessarily mean there wasn’t,” Ross said.
