Speaker of the House Mike Chenault was involved in a two-vehicle car accident in Nikiski Tuesday night.

No one was injured in the crash that happened when Nikiski resident Justice James Maylen Uhls, 20, tried to make a left turn off Holt Lamplight Road onto Lake Street in front of Chenault’s oncoming 2003 Dodge pickup, according to an Alaska State Trooper online dispatch.

Chenault tried to avoid the collision, but Uhls did not have enough time to make the turn and was struck by Chenault’s vehicle, troopers wrote in the report. Both men reported wearing seat belts and alcohol was not a factor, according to the dispatch.

Uhls was cited for failing to exercise due care to avoid an accident.
