The Soldotna City Council will continue to meet at 6 p.m. after unanimous rejection of an effort to bump the meetings up to 5:30 p.m.
Council members Jordan Chilson and Dave Carey on June 11 introduced the resolution calling for the time change. Chilson said the move would align city council meetings with some of the other boards and commissions while also moving business earlier in the evening.
The resolution was postponed from that meeting after member Chera Wackler said earlier meetings might be difficult for parents, who are already pressed to move children between school and activities.
On June 25, when the resolution was reconsidered, Chilson said he’d been convinced that the move would not be as beneficial to all users as he’d initially thought.
“I believe that as this is proposed, the change may possibly be better for some,” he said. “We’ve heard it would cause some problems for others.”
Carey, similarly, said his mind had been changed by Wackler’s take on the resolution. He said any change that might make it difficult for someone who wants to serve on council to be unable to — like not enough time between work ending and the meeting starting — isn’t one he supports.
Every member of the council voted against the resolution.
