An 18-year-old Seward resident was charged with assault and reckless driving after Alaska State Troopers say she led them on a high-speed chase on Kalifornsky Beach Road for around 7 miles Monday evening.
Kathryn Brockman is charged with two counts of third-degree assault, one count of fourth-degree assault, first-degree failure to stop at the direction of a police officer, reckless driving and violating conditions of release.
According to an affidavit included with charging documents, troopers responded to a call near 10 p.m. from a person who said Brockman had hit them, threatened them with a knife, and nearly struck them with a car. Brockman was found driving northbound on Kalifornsky Beach Road in a gray Honda SUV around 6 miles south from the intersection with Bridge Access Road.
Troopers attempted to stop Brockman, who fled at speeds “exceeding 100 mph,” they said. The affidavit says she “narrowly missed hitting multiple cars and ran multiple red lights.” She avoided police for more than 10 minutes before being stopped by road spikes deployed near Trinity Greenhouse.
Brockman refused to answer questions from police on Monday, according to the affidavit . She faces additional assault charges in five other cases within the last nine months. An arraignment scheduled for Tuesday was delayed to Wednesday because she failed to appear, according to the state’s court database.
