Remains recovered in the Cook Inlet near Anchor Point on July 3 have been identified as belonging to David Meyer of Happy Valley, Alaska State Troopers announced in a press release Tuesday, Aug. 5. Meyer was previously reported missing on June 11 while kayaking in the Cook Inlet.
Per the release, troopers were notified on July 3 at 10:30 a.m. that a fishing charter had found human remains floating in the inlet. Upon recovery, the body was sent to the State Medical Examiner’s Office for autopsy and positive identification.
In a GoFundMe created July 7, Meyer’s daughter, Chantrelle, wrote that David “was so much more than the tragedy of his passing.”
“He was a veteran, a retired laborer, an avid hunter and fisherman, and a deeply active member of his community,” she wrote. “He was a grandfather, father, brother, son, uncle and friend. The kind of man who showed up for the people he loved and gave without hesitation.
“Whether he was casting a line, helping a neighbor, or sharing a laugh around a fire, David lived fully and gave endlessly.”
The fundraiser was created to help cover memorial expenses and travel costs for Meyer’s family members. Find it at gofund.me/9b39c090.
