Update: District-wide schools and activities closure in effect Friday through Saturday, Jan. 16-17

All Kenai Peninsula Borough School District schools and Kenai Peninsula College campuses are closed due to rain and freezing temperatures expected overnight.

The Kenai Peninsula Borough School District announced at approximately 10:19 a.m. Friday morning that all activities scheduled on the Peninsula for Friday and Saturday, Jan. 16-17, are cancelled.

“The safety of our students, staff, and families remains our priority,” KPBSD assistant superintendent Kari Dendurent wrote. “We appreciate your understanding and encourage everyone to use caution during these conditions.

KPBSD has implemented school closures for every school in the district on Friday, Jan. 16 due to rain and freezing temperatures expected overnight. All Kenai Peninsula College campuses will be closed as well, and campus events are canceled.

The National Weather Service issued a winter weather advisory for the Kenai Peninsula in effect until 3 p.m. Friday, forecasting 1-1.5 inches of rain and 1-3 inches of snow. Winds up to 50 miles per hour are possible Friday morning.

KPBSD encourages parents and guardians to monitor the district’s website and Facebook page for more information.
