Beaver Loop to close for construction next week

Beaver Loop Road to be closed 6 a.m. Monday, April 13 until 6 p.m. Tuesday, April 21.

Beaver Loop Road will be closed next week as crews with the Alaska Department of Transportation and construction company QAP resume work on a resurfacing project that was started last year.

From 6 a.m. Monday, April 13 until 6 p.m. Tuesday, April 21, drivers should expect Beaver Loop Road to be closed between Barbara Drive and Cone Avenue — from Cunningham Park to just north of VIP Alaska, according to the project information from Alaska Navigator.

For residents of the area, homes inside the closure will be accessible 24 hours a day and flaggers will be on-site to direct traffic and answer questions, according to an informational flier distributed to residents.

Anyone driving to places near Barbara Drive, Cunningham Court, Tundra Rose Lane or Cunningham Park should use Bridge Access Road to reach their destinations, according to the flier.

Anyone driving to places near VIP Alaska, the trailer park, Angler Drive or Ames Road should use the Kenai Spur Highway.

DOT Project Engineer Jason Baxley said Tuesday that next week crews will be pouring a headwall on the south side of the road, which requires crews to dig holes about 15 feet deep.

Next week’s closure is expected to be the only one for the remainder of the project, which Baxley said will be finished by about mid-July.

The Beaver Loop road improvements will include a resurfacing of the length of the road and the construction of rights of way and a separated pedestrian pathway.
