Head to the Nikiski Community Recreation Center for its annual Family Fun in the Midnight Sun festival on Saturday from noon to 4:30 p.m. to enjoy games, food and live music performances.
Hosted by the North Peninsula Recreation Service Area, the event has been happening since the early 1990s. It evolved from a local group of dads who got together on Father’s Day at the Bishops Creek Bar for “Kiddie Days” in the 1960s. They would give away bikes and other prizes to the children of the community.
The event is all about “the summertime community getting together and enjoying the outdoors,” Eric Eleton, service area director, said on Tuesday.
“Not to jinx it, but this event has always had good weather so that’s another thing to look forward to.”
Eleton also said there will be musical artists and performers, including a handful of young people from high school and college. Along with the live music there will be door prizes, vendors, inflatables, free watermelon and other fun things.
