Problem Solvers win state title

On April 14 and 15, elementary, middle and high school students from around Alaska met in Soldotna to compete in the Future Problem Solving State Bowl. The Kenai Middle School team of Raleigh Van Natta, Brittany Gilman, Mayzie Potton and Maria Salzetti took first place in both categories: the Global Issues Presentation of Action Plan and the Global Issues Team Competition. They scored higher in the team competition than any other team in KMS history.

The victory earned them the right to compete in the FPSP International Conference at Iowa State University this summer. At the conference they will compete against the top 2 percent of the students who participate in FPS from approximately 45 states and 16 countries. This will be the fourth year in a row that KMS has sent a team to the International Conference. The group was mentored by Cynthia Romberg, who will travel with them to Iowa. Devynn Heath will accompany the team as alternate.
