Poets Corner: Ode to Hobo Jim

Ode to Hobo Jim

By Trish Thompson – AKA Princess Patricia

He definitely has a god given talent

To write those purely original songs

When he strums on his custom made guitar,

Covered with gold nuggets and Alaskan coins,

His thoughts are never afar

His heart is thorough Alaskan

As his wife can attest

And he sings as well as Nashville’s best

Whether he is entertaining in an school, bar, library, or any other venue, his written words are very rare

His songs still tough the heart’s of young and old

And his thoughts are bold.

He’s known as “The Alaskan Baladeer” as his songs come

From life experiences made in this great state.

Make plans to see a show or two where he sings

And tells his story of how each song came to be,

And you will walk away with a new found joy and

Appreciation of his talents, as I can guarantee.

Minister’s Message: Good grief

Grief doesn’t take a holiday, but it can offer you something the holidays can’t.

This 1903 photograph of mostly Kenai residents shows (back, far left) Hans Peter Nielsen, first superintendent of Kenai’s agricultural experiment station. Nielsen began work at the station in 1899 and resigned at the end of the 1903 season. (Photo from the Alaska State Library historical collection)
