KDLL 91.9 FM to host ‘An Evening of Jazz and Swing’ on Wednesday

The visiting band will also put on a jazz workshop in the Soldotna Public Library at 6:30 p.m.

Svetlana and The New York Jazz Collective, an award-winning New York-based jazz group, are performing “An Evening of Jazz and Swing” on Wednesday, Aug. 27, starting at 7 p.m. in the Triumvirate Theatre in Kenai. Tickets are $35 and proceeds support KDLL 91.9 FM, the public radio station for Kenai and Soldotna.

On Tuesday, the day before the concert, the band will put on a jazz workshop in the Soldotna Public Library at 6:30 p.m. The event will include a short performance by the band, an open Q&A session, and a jam session for local musicians. Attendees are encouraged to bring their own instruments.

KDLL Board President Shaylon Cochran said Monday that the local radio station is eager to bring a new sound and a new experience to Kenai listeners.

“I’m excited that we can get some new music in from the outside to the central peninsula and offer folks a chance to hear something that they might not ordinarily have a chance to hear and be exposed to,” he said. “From KDLL’s perspective, that’s sort of what we’re all about.”

Wednesday’s concert doubles as a fundraiser as KDLL and other public radio stations in the state and nation grapple with Congress’s recent recission of federal funding for public media.

For more information, or to purchase tickets, visit kdll.org. More information about the Tuesday jazz workshop can be found at “Soldotna Library” on Facebook.
