Alaska EDM festival ‘Sacred Acre’ returns for 4th year

Started in 2022, the annual autumnal festival will be Sept. 5-7.

As the air begins to chill and leaves begin to turn, fishermen return and tourism begin to slowly peter out of town, some on the Kenai Peninsula are preparing for the gradual autumnal processional toward winter hibernation. But for a certain set of the peninsula, the fun is just beginning as they prepare instead for the annual EDM festival, Sacred Acre, to return to the Kenai Peninsula Fairgrounds the first weekend of September.

Organized annually by Cosmic Ayre Productions, the festival provides a mission-based atmosphere for the celebration of music and nature; their website states that the festival promotes anti-trawl initiatives through environmental advocacy efforts. This year, Sacred Acre announced the introduction of the Take Action Tent, created in collaboration with nonprofit partners SalmonState and Oceana. Organizers say the hub will share facts about bycatch, the health of the oceans, and provide the chance to sign the Stop Wasteful Bycatch petition, as well as connect directly with advocates.

This year’s festival will be headlined by British DJ Troyboi and electronic producer Jade Cicada. Portland-based Emancipator and respective duos Desert Dwellers and The Funk Hunters will also be featured, as well as Kenai Peninsula-based producers Brooks the Wook, Jerbear, Salmonzilla and Trashraptor.

The festival will also offer a workshop center, Stillwater Reflection, where people can “relax, think quietly, and feel peaceful.” The center will host yoga workshops, ecstatic dances, a tea and cocoa ceremony and sound baths.

Sea Legs Stilt and Puppet Troupe will perform throughout the weekend, in addition to fire performers.

This year’s festival will be Sept. 5-7. Tickets and adventure packages are available online at sacredacreak.com.

Grief doesn’t take a holiday, but it can offer you something the holidays can’t.
