Colony runners sweep Dieckgraeff Invite; Johannes Bynagle, Boonstra take individual races

The Colony girls and boys cross-country teams swept the Dieckgraeff Invitational in Seward on Friday by narrow margins.

The Colony and Homer boys both scored 37 points, but the Knights won based on the superior position of the sixth scoring runner. At the Colony XC Invite on Aug. 30, Colony and Homer also had an identical score through five runners, but the Mariners won the tiebreaker.

Also from the peninsula, Soldotna was third, Kenai Central was sixth and Seward was eighth.

The Knights girls scored 45 points to defeat Soldotna by one. Also, Seward was third, Homer was fourth and Kenai was sixth.

Johannes Bynagle ran 5 kilometers in 16 minutes, 33 seconds, to win the boys race, with Homer’s Caleb Bunker second at 16:39. Tait Ostrom also was fifth for the Mariners.

Soldotna’s Ollie Dahl was the other peninsula runner in the top 10, taking sixth.

The Knights had runners finish third, fourth and ninth through 12th.

SoHi’s Tania Boonstra won the race in 19:57, while teammate Sophia Jedlicki was second at 20:07. Katie DeBardelaben also nabbed ninth for the Stars.

For Seward, Olive Jordan was fourth and Juniper Ingalls was seventh.

Homer also put two in the top 10, with Etta Bynagle at fifth and Claira Booz at eighth.

Luke Elhard led the Seward boys in 17th, while Chase Laker paced Kenai Central at 20th.

Teresa Fallon led the Kenai Central girls at 23rd.
