Candy and costumes

Kids in costumes were out en masse around town Monday, trick-or-treating and trunk-or-treating to fill bags and buckets with candy.
Trick-or-treating events were held at the Orca Theater, at the Soldotna Church of God, the Kenai Peninsula Borough Building, the Nikiski Community Recreation Center, Kenai Peninsula College and Kenai Senior Center, among other locations.
At the Orca Theater, despite below-freezing temperatures, hundreds of kids and parents filled the parking lot. Members of the Kenai River Brown Bears handed out popcorn and other treats, while families and local organizations like Central Emergency Services, Walden Bros., Connections Homeschool and UPS handed out candy from cars and trucks.
Also on Halloween, the Kenai Peninsula Food Bank held “It’s Scary to be Hungry!” — handing out free meals and treats via a drive-thru in their parking lot.
More Halloween events and trick-or-treating opportunities happened throughout the weekend, like Tsalteshi Trails’ Spook Night on Sunday.
