Structure fire causes Bridge Access shutdown

4:30 p.m. update:

No one was hurt in a fire that damaged a three-story home on Bridge Access Road on Wednesday afternoon.

Kenai Fire Chief Jeff Tucker said the homeowner reported the blaze.

“The owner of the house was at home, but he was outside and there were no injuries,” he said.

The fire spread quickly through the residence, which was made mostly of wood, but Tucker said firefighters were able to save it. The building is not a total loss but is not habitable, he said.

The fire was under control in about 30 minutes, Tucker said.

Members of the Kenai Police Department shut down a portion of Bridge Access Road because the water supply was across the road from the home, Tucker said.

“We can’t have people driving across the fire hose,” he said.

Kenai Fire Marshal Tommy Carver is conducting an investigation into the fire’s cause, Tucker said. The home was not insured, he said.

A structure fire on Bridge Access Road in Kenai shut down part of the road Wednesday afternoon.

Members of the Kenai and Nikiski fire departments responded to a large structure fire on Bridge Access Road in Kenai around 2 p.m. Wednesday. The road was blocked off from the top of the hill leaving Kenai to about the road’s intersection with Beaver Loop Road.

Kenai Police were on scene to block the road and direct traffic.
