After notching a victory over the host Chugiak-Eagle River Chinooks on Friday, the Oilers were swept by the host Anchorage Bucs in a Saturday Alaska Baseball League doubleheader.

The Oilers lost the Saturday games 7-2 and 13-2.

Peninsula falls to 13-11, 1.5 games in back of the league-leading Mat-Su Miners. The Bucs are in third place and 12-11, just a half game in back of the Oilers.

In Saturday’s first game, the Bucs grabbed a 7-0 lead after four innings in coasting to victory.

Oilers starter and loser Tevin Murray lasted 3 1-3 innings, giving up six runs on three hits while walking five and striking out seven. Reliever Tre Brown gave up a run on three hits while walking one and striking one.

The Oilers were only able to scratch out three hits on offense, coming from Ryan Novis, Ryan Koch and Bryce Begell.

The second game went even worse for the Oilers. In the first game, the Oilers did not get a hit until the fifth inning. In the second game, Peninsula did not get a hit until the sixth inning.

The Bucs were already up 1-0 when a nightmare fourth inning ensued for the Oilers. The inning took 30 minutes, and the Bucs got nine runs on eight hits. Oilers head coach Kyle Brown also was ejected in the inning.

Noah Owen started for the Oilers and gave up three runs on three hits in 3 1-3 innings. Andrew Lopez then yielded six runs — all unearned — on four hits while recording one out.

Erickson Fish then gave up four runs — three earned — on six hits in 2 1-3 innings.

The no-hit bid of Casey O’Sullivan was finally broken up with two outs in the sixth inning, when Ryan Novis uncorked a two-run home run. Koch had the other hit for the Oilers.

Friday, the Oilers defeated the Chugiak-Eagle River Chinooks 5-0.

Four pitchers combined to shut out the Chinooks. Bryan Woo got the start and went five innings, giving up three hits and three walks while striking out eight.

Justin Jaime went the next two innings, giving up only a hit. Bret Ricklefs and Andrew Lopez each had scoreless, hitless innings.

The Oilers banged out 11 hits on offense, with Evan Berkey going 2 for 4 with two runs, Brian Leonhardt going 2 for 4 and Tyler Duke going 2 for 3 with a run and an RBI.

Adding hits for the Oilers were Paul Kunst, Ryan Novis, Grant Wood, Bryce Begell and Calvin Farris.

The Oilers got on the board in the second with a Berkey home run.

Peninsula stretched the lead to 4-0 in the fifth when Kunst doubled in Farris and Duke, then scored on a Grant Wood single. The final run came in the sixth, when Berkey led off with a double and scored on a passed ball.

The Oilers stay on the road to face the Bucs in a 2 p.m. battle today. That game finishes a seven-game road trip. The Oilers then open up a five-game series with the Mat-Su Miners at home. The first game is Wednesday at 7 p.m.

After that series, the Oilers only have six regular-season home games left.
