Kenai, SoHi ski teams compete at GPRA Relays

The Soldotna and Kenai Central cross-country skiing teams competed at the Government Peak Recreation Area Relays on Friday and Saturday in the Matanuska-Susitna valleys.

Friday was a freestyle relay, with coed teams of two. Each skier did a 1.3-kilometer loop twice.

Colony’s Elliot Sensabaugh and Coby Marvin won the varsity relay in 13 minutes, 12 seconds.

Soldotna’s Michael Davidson and Tania Boonstra led the Kenai Peninsula by finishing third in 13:49.

Also in the top 15, Kenai’s Greg Fallon and Emily Moss were fourth in 13:54, Soldotna’s Ariana Cannava and Parker Richards were fifth in 13:59, Kenai’s Chase Laker and Isla Crouse were sixth in 14:00, Kenai’s Jack Laker and Ruby Davis were eighth in 14:12, and Soldotna’s Karalyn Veihdeffer and Noble Cassidy were 12th in 14:43.

Kenai’s Teresa Fallon and Logan Cartwright were 16th in 15:26, while Kenai’s Mya Taylor and Zane Tews were 19th in 15:37, Soldotna’s Leanne Gordon and Nels Dahl were 23rd in 16:08, Kenai’s Owen Smith and Fox Coyle were 24th in 16:19, Soldotna’s Avery Ciufo and Caleb Wohlers were 26th in 16:36, Soldotna’s Danika Winslow and Ethan Anding were 28th in 16:58, Kenai’s Levi Strong and Xinlan Tanner were 31st in 17:35, Soldotna’s Shayla Smith and Isaak Winslow were 32nd in 17:48, and Kenai’s Emily Taylor and Joel Moss were 33rd in 17:54.

Saturday was a classic race, with coed teams of four. Each skier did 5 kilometers.

Colony’s squad of Marvin, Weston Sensabaugh, Elliot Sensabaugh and Adriana Ramirez won at 1:05:36.

Kenai’s team of Crouse, Chase Laker, Moss and Greg Fallon was second at 1:07:29, while SoHi’s team of Richards, Boonstra, Cannava and Davidson was third at 1:09:08.

Also in the top 10 were Kenai’s Mya Taylor, Davis, Jack Laker and Tews in 1:14:29, Soldotna’s Veihdeffer, Cox, Mickelson and Cassidy at 1:14:47, and Kenai’s Carthwright, Coyle, Teresa Fallon and Smith at 1:19:23.

Also, Soldotna’s Gordon, Ciufo, Wohlers and Dahl were 11th in 1:25:10, Kenai’s Lynnea Hack, Joel Moss, Emily Taylor and Strong were 13th at 1:27:13, Soldotna’s Danika Winslow, Anding, Smith and Isaak Winslow were 14th at 1:27:49, Kenai’s Abigail Bishop, Robert Carson, William Roberts and Sam Sloan were 15th in 1:30:16, and Soldotna’s Shiloh Zichko, Valentino Rigutto, Aislyn Downum and Tracker Keller were 17th in 1:39:53.
