Adarra Hagelund, who won a Division I state track and field title for Soldotna High School in the high jump in 2022, made history in the event Saturday, Jan. 20.

Hagelund, a sophomore, broke the school record for Dickinson State University in Dickinson, North Dakota, at the Mike Thorson Open.

Hagelund cleared 5 feet, 7.25 inches at the indoor meet to set the new mark. The leap also ties Hagelund for the third best mark in NAIA this season. The top mark is 5—8.5.

Hagelund has had a quick ascension in the event since going out for track and field for the first time as a senior at Soldotna.

That season, she won state at 5—1.

Also at the Mike Thorson Open, another former SoHi athlete, Galen Brantley III, won the shot put at 51—4.5.
