255 do the Salmon Shuffle

The 5K race is held annually as part of Seldovia’s 4th of July celebrations.

The annual Seldovia Salmon Shuffle, part of our neighbor-across-the-bay’s Fourth of July celebrations, saw more than 250 participants this year. Sponsored by the Seldovia Arts Council, cash prizes were awarded for first-, second- and third-place winners in four categories: adult female, adult male, juvenile (12 years and under) female and juvenile male.

Arts council co-secretary Tania Spurkland said in an email to Homer News Friday that the 5K race was a “fun, festive run through the town of Seldovia, out to our airport, and back along our slough to the harbor start/finish.”

Duncan Whitbeck placed first overall and in the men’s category, finishing in just under 18 minutes. Ashley Carroll took first place in the women’s category, crossing the finish line at just over 20 minutes; she placed 10th overall. Adeline Chlup placed first in the juvenile female category and Kale Tilly took first in the juvenile male category.

The event also received support from the Alaska Council on the Arts and the Homer Foundation.
