A tsunami watch that was in effect for coastal areas of Alaska from the British Columbia/Alaska border to Chignik Bay, including Resurrection Bay and Kachemak Bay communities, was canceled Tuesday evening.

The watch followed an 8.7 earthquake that occurred Tuesday afternoon off the coast of Kamchatka, Russia.

The U.S. National Weather Service Anchorage Alaska posted on Facebook at 5:35 p.m. that “no tsunami danger presently exists for this area.”
