Friday: Homer baseball picks up 1st win of season

The Homer baseball team defeated Petersburg 11-3 on Friday at the Ketchikan Round Robin.

The Mariners are now 1-1 at the tournament and 1-1 on the season.

Against the Vikings, Homer had a 9-0 lead after four innings.

Henry Wedvik went all seven innings for the Mariners on the mound, giving up three runs — two earned — on six hits while walking none and striking out 11.

Wedvik helped himself at the plate by going 2 for 4 with two runs.

Also at the plate for Homer, CJ Burns was 2 for 4 with three runs, Clyde Clemens had two runs and Preston Stanislaw had two RBIs.

The Mariners conclude the tournament Saturday by playing Petersburg at noon and Ketchikan at 3 p.m.
