Soldotna football rolls past Wasilla, stays perfect

Another trip to the Mat-Su, and another big win for the Soldotna Stars.

Soldotna ran to a 48-14 win over the Wasilla Warriors on Friday night at Wasilla High. Last week, the Stars pounded Palmer 55-7 in Palmer.

Friday, Soldotna used six rushing touchdowns to improve to 7-0 overall. The Stars also clinched one of the two postseason berths in the Division II Northern Lights Conference by improving to 3-0 in the league.

The Warriors fall to 1-2 in the league and 3-4 overall and are eliminated from postseason contention.

Gehret Medcoff rushed for three touchdowns in the win on scores of 9, 18 and 8 yards. Zac Buckbee dove in for a pair of 1-yard scores. Wyatt Faircloth added a 1-yard run.

Medcoff also returned a fumble 15 yards for a score in the opening minute of the game.

Wasilla spoiled the shutout bid with Jimmy Lackey’s 71-yard touchdown run. Max Lason added a 1-yard touchdown catch during the final moments of the game.

Wasilla did become the first team this season to force Soldotna to punt. That came with 6:53 left in the first quarter.
