Saturday Peninsula football scores

Homer, Nikiski and Seward all won in Saturday football action, while Kenai Central took a close loss to Barrow.

The host Mariners defeated Redington 66-18 in nonconference action. The Mariners and Huskies will play their Mid Alaska league game Sept. 22. Homer is 2-0 overall, while Redington is 0-2 overall.

Kenai Central took an 8-6 loss at Barrow in another nonconference game. These two teams will play their Mid Alaska game Sept. 23. Both the Kardinals and Whalers are now 1-1 overall.

Saturday was also the opening day of play in the new nine-man football league, with all four of the league’s teams in action.

At Nikiski, the Bulldogs defeated Eielson 62-46. At Seward, the Seahawks defeated Valdez 41-14.
