Kenai volleyball ties for 3rd in Gold Bracket at West Spiketacular

The Kenai Central volleyball team tied for third in the Gold Bracket to lead the Kenai Peninsula at the 21-team West Spiketacular on Friday and Saturday in Anchorage.

Also from the peninsula, Soldotna lost its first game in the Gold Bracket, but went on to win the Gold consolation bracket to take fifth.

Nikiski tied for third in the Silver Bracket, while Seward tied for fifth in the Silver Bracket.

Soldotna’s Cassidy Kruse, Kenai’s Sophie Tapley, Seward’s Mikinley Williams and Nikiski’s Blakeley Jorgensen were named to the all-tournament team.

The event started with pool play Friday and Saturday.

Kenai was second in Pool A at 10-2. The Kards defeated Kodiak 25-15, 25-12, defeated Grace Christian 25-22, 25-7, defeated Utqiagvik 25-23, 20-16, split with West with a 25-14 win and 25-17 loss, defeated Palmer 25-18, 19-17, and split with Dimond with a 25-19 win and 25-7 loss.

Soldotna was third in Pool B at 6-5-1. The Stars defeated West Valley 25-15, 25-12, lost to Colony 25-21, 25-20, split with Seward with a 25-21 win and 25-15 loss, defeated Juneau-Douglas: Yadaa.at Kale 25-19, 25-12, defeated East 25-23 and tied East 12-12, and lost to South 25-20, 25-16.

Nikiski was second in Pool C at 6-5-1. The Bulldogs split with Bartlett with a 26-24 win and 22-17 loss, split with Lathrop with a 26-24 loss and 25-16 win, defeated Nome 27-25, 23-20, defeated Eagle River 25-21, 25-18, lost to Service 25-22 and had a tie with Service at 24-24, and lost to Wasilla 25-15, 25-21.

Seward was fifth in Pool B at 5-7. The Seahawks defeated Juneau 25-20, 23-19, lost to Colony 25-14, 25-23, split with Soldotna, split with West Valley with a 25-19 win and 21-18 loss, lost to South 25-18, 25-6, and split with East with a 25-21 loss and 21-20 win.

In the Gold Bracket, Kenai defeated Service 2-1 and lost to eventual champion South 2-0. Soldotna lost to Dimond 2-0, then defeated Eagle River 2-1.

In the Silver Bracket, Nikiski defeated Grace 2-0 then lost to Wasilla 2-0. Seward lost to Utqiagvik 2-0.
