Friday hoops: SoHi sweeps Kodiak

The host Soldotna girls and boys basketball teams opened up Northern Lights Conference play Friday by sweeping Kodiak.

The SoHi girls are 5-2 after a 53-37 victory over the Bears. SoHi head coach Rustin Hitchcock wrote in a text message that the rebound margin helped control the game even as it got closer.

Hope Hillyer led the way with 17, while Anaulie Sedivy, Alyssa McDonald and Juliet Innes had 8, Laurel Johnson had 6, and Teagan Kobylarz, Anika Jedlicka and Cassidy Kruse had 2.

Mizzy Arbues paced the Bears with 29.

The SoHi boys won 53-32 to improve to 5-2 overall.

Easton Hawkins had 19 to lead the way for SoHi, while Izaiah Gilbert had 14. Also, Jayden Stuyvesant had 3, Owen Buckbee, Liam Peck, Will Klein and Damari Adams had 2, and Sam Strouse and Bryan Berg had 1.

For Kodiak, Kelly Ticman had 14, Christian Enriquez and Gavin Basuel had 6, Mac Abellera had 3, Liam Danelski had 2 and Jon Bradbury had 1.

The same two teams play Saturday at SoHi, with the girls varsity at 1:30 p.m. and boys varsity at 3 p.m.

Lumen Christi girls 42, Ninilchik 9

The visiting Archangels defeated the Wolverines in Southern Conference play Friday. Ninilchik falls to 2-2 overall and 0-1 in the league.

For the Wolverines, Lily Berger had 5, while Caelis Cress had 2, and Kate Hendrix and Aliah Mayher had 1 apiece.

For Lumen, Amara Warren poured in 29, while Isabel Brown had 9, Kaylee Comaker had 5, and Kendra Jarrett and Jules Butcher had 2.

Ninilchik boys 69, Lumen Christi 56

The host Wolverines moved to 4-0 on Friday by winning their Southern Conference opener.

Ninilchik led 12-11 after a quarter, but opened up a 32-25 lead at halftime and 53-44 advantage after three quarters.

Kade McCorison pumped in 29, while Andon McCorison had 16 and Max Russell had 13. Also, Onyx Allen had 6 and Eric Rader had 5.

For Lumen, Carson Wingate had 14, Bryce Sanders had 13, Porter Brady and Taizano Nelson had 11, Justin Ortega had 3, and Troy Knolley and Noah Tzvetcoff had 2.

Mountain City Basketball Invitational

The Kenai Central boys fell to 2-3 overall with a 70-28 loss to San Diego Christian in the semifinals of the Mountain City Basketball Invitational on Friday in Anchorage.

Ben Harris had 6 for the Kardinals, while Riel Castillo had 5, Eli Smith, Caleb Litke and Mason Tunseth had 4, Reid Titus had 3 and Miles Metteer had 2.

For San Diego Christian, Julian Lebel had 23, Ronnie Scott had 15, Anthony Lee had 7, Peyton Price had 5, Connor Kiti, Gannon Pispia and Elijah Proano had 4, Dwight McDonald III and Alex Williams had 3, and Luke Sanchez had 2.

Saturday, the Kards play Kotzebue at 4 p.m. for third place.

Also Friday, the Nikiski boys lost to Hutchison 55-52 to fall to the seventh place game.

Carter Eiter poured in 21 for the Bulldogs, while Kevin Love had 12, Kameron Bird had 9, Dylan Hall had 5, Ryder Maguire had 3 and Lynn Deveer had 2.

Logan Penn had 17 for Hutchison, while Charles Lissold had 11, Joshua Haynes had 10, Cayden Robert had 7, Aiden Belt and Jade Robinson had 4, and Brandon Horn had 2.
