Yesteryear

By ML Mires, Soldotna

Sunny, minus one below.

Sparkling, dancing, inviting

Pants, coat, gloves, and hat wearing.

Calling me outdoors.

Two inches of freshly, fallen snow,

Blanketing steps and driveways.

As morning quietly awakens,

To the beauty I behold

Reminding me of others.

Yesterday of old.

Beckoning the call, she endures

White’s Pass, Yukon River, miners, thieves,

Camping, tents, harsh winter storms.

Surviving the odds, she carries, packs,

her clothes, food, and gear to strike it rich.

Sparkling, dancing, inviting

Calling her onward

Days of adventure, hardiness, and gold.

Sunny, minus 40 below.
