An Arkansas resident was arrested on a charge of second-degree murder in the killing of a Homer woman on Saturday.

The Homer Police Department wrote on Facebook on Saturday evening that at around 4 p.m. they responded with Alaska State Troopers to reports of a shooting on Adams Drive.

They found 22-year-old Brianna Hetrick inside a residence dead.

They say they arrested 35-year-old Arturo Mondragon-Lopez Jr. outside of the home.

According to an affidavit written by Homer Police Sgt. Jessica Poling, included with charging documents, Mondragon-Lopez Jr. called 911 to report that he had shot his girlfriend.

Mondragon-Lopez Jr. is charged with one count of second-degree murder. According to state statute, that charge describes a crime in which “the person knowingly engages in conduct that results in the death of another person under circumstances manifesting an extreme indifference to the value of human life.”

Bail was set at $250,000 cash appearance and $250,000 cash performance.
