The Kenai Chamber of Commerce extended the deadline for their annual gingerbread house contest, giving contestants an extra two weeks to submit their creations. All are welcome to drop off a gingerbread house by Monday, Dec. 8, any time during the chamber’s business hours. The chamber is open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m.
Voting is open now and ends on Dec. 15. Winners will be announced on Dec. 16. The chamber is offering cash prizes ranging from $20-50 in five different age groups: 2-5, 6-8, 9-12, 13-17 and 18 and older. Only one winner per group will be announced.
The only rule is that all creations must be on a disposable 12-by-12 inch base. All entries will be discarded after the contest, so nothing is required to be edible.
This is the chamber’s 13th annual gingerbread house contest, and it’s one of several upcoming holiday events around the peninsula. For a complete list of events, visit the Clarion’s roundup of the festivities online.
