An Eagle River man was killed Sunday after his motorcycle rear-ended a truck on the Seward Highway near Summit Lake.

Aaron Smith, 44, was heading south on the Seward Highway near Mile 42 when the driver of a Dodge pickup hit the brakes in front of him, according to an Alaska State Trooper dispatch. Smith was thrown from the motorcycle and pronounced dead on the scene.

The driver of the truck, a 15-year-old from Seward, was wearing her seatbelt and uninjured. The accident closed the Seward highway for an hour and half. Troopers reported that impairment or speed did not appear to be factors.
