An eclectic mix of local art makes up the May show at the Kenai Art Center, “What We Do,” which opened Friday.
The work in “What We Do” comes from a local group of artists called The Art Gaggle. The group, according to information provided as part of the show, started 15 years ago as a gathering of creative people in Soldotna, Kenai, and Kasilof. They’ve met weekly for over a decade in varied locations from the art center itself to church basements to warehouses.
The show “gives a glimpse into the variety and diversity of approximately 20 members of the group,” the statement reads. “The work encompasses paintings in watercolor, acrylic, mixed media and three-dimensional works in paper and needle craft.”
On the walls Friday, art was gathered loosely into themes. Portraits, flowers and wildlife could all be seen together, with many different takes by the different artists in the group.
The show is open until May 30, during Kenai Art Center hours, noon to 5 p.m., Wednesday through Saturday.
