Homer Electric Association is now accepting applications for their annual Electrical Safety Poster Contest, Youth Rally Leadership Camp and HEA scholarships.
The Electrical Safety Poster Contest invites third and fourth graders in schools throughout HEA’s service area to spread awareness about electric safety through art. Posters are due at the HEA office by Tuesday, March 31 at 4 p.m. Posters must be under 8.5-by-11-inches, and HEA’s website suggests avoiding using pencils.
The Youth Rally Leadership Camp will send two sophomores or juniors to Northwest Nazarene University in Nampa, Idaho July 6-10 to gain industry insight through hands-on activities. HEA will cover all expenses associated with the program, including travel. Applications are due by Friday, Feb. 27 at 5 p.m.
According to a Jan. 9 press release, HEA scholarships support high school seniors or adults pursuing trade or apprenticeship programs or applying to two-year or four-year universities. These scholarships are funded by the interest earned on HEA’s unclaimed capital credits. Applications are due by Sunday, March 15 at 11:59 p.m. HEA will award three scholarships this year: the Academic Excellence Scholarship, the Scholarship for the Trades and the Returning Student Scholarship.
“Supporting the communities we serve is a significant priority for HEA and the hundreds of other electric cooperatives across the country,” HEA Chief Operating Officer Rob Montgomery said in the release. “And what better way of doing that than investing in the leaders of tomorrow.”
