Wednesday: Brown Bears defeat Ice Wolves at Showcase

The Kenai River Brown Bears opened up play in the North American Hockey League Showcase by defeating the New Mexico Ice Wolves 3-2 on Wednesday in Blaine, Minnesota.

The Brown Bears move to 3-2-0-0 overall, while the Ice Wolves fall to 3-2-0-1.

Michael Fiedorczuk, assisted by Massimiliano Monson, broke a 2-all tie with 5 minutes, 54 seconds, left in the game to get the Bears the win.

Kenai River had taken a 1-0 lead in the first period when Trevor Stewart, assisted by Monson, scored.

The Ice Wolves answered with a power-play goal by Sean Gibbons and a goal by Cayden Joramo to lead 2-1 after the first period.

Gavin Jensen had the lone goal of the second period to get the Bears even headed to the third period.

Mitchell Mccusker had 24 saves to secure the victory for Kenai River, while Gavin Schahn stopped 17 for the Ice Wolves.

The Bears continue play at the Showcase on Thursday, Sept. 25, at 10:45 a.m. AKDT, against the El Paso (Texas) Rhinos.
