Mystery Creek Access Road to open Friday
Published 9:30 pm Sunday, August 3, 2025
The Kenai National Wildlife Refuge will reopen Mystery Creek Access Road by midnight on Friday, Aug. 8, they announced Monday.
According to previous Clarion reporting, the road is often used for hunting access, and is usually closed in the fall as weather causes road conditions to deteriorate. The road is located at Milepost 63, close to the Skyline Trailhead.
Road conditions require four-wheel drive vehicles, a news release from the refuge says, and users may encounter mud and “deep standing water.” The road may be closed at any time to prevent damage based on weather and road conditions.
All-terrain vehicles and other off-road vehicles are prohibited on Mystery Creek Access Road and all other areas of the refuge. Motorized access is prohibited beyond the eastern bank of the East Fork of the Moose River.
This year, the bridge over the Chickaloon River, located roughly 14 miles from the road’s gate, will close for replacement “at some point this fall.” Signs will be posted once dates are determined.
