The City of Kenai is working to prevent further flooding caused by beaver dams in the Woodland Subdivision.

The beavers had built dams that caused flooding in neighborhoods near Redoubt Avenue and Sycamore Street. Lee Frey, Public Works director for the City of Kenai, said it hasn’t been a super quick process to stop the flooding, but the city has undertaken efforts to drain as much as possible and keep the water moving.

The City of Kenai was permitted by the State Department of Fish and Game to trap beavers and remove their dams.

“We’ve placed traps for the beavers, and the traps that we are using, unfortunately, are not live traps,” Frey said.

On Tuesday, signs could be seen warning people about the ongoing trapping in the area.
