All was merry and bright in the parking lot of the Soldotna Regional Sports Complex on Friday night, where the Soldotna Shines celebration was in full-swing.

The event, which was organized by the Soldotna Chamber of Commerce, was modified this year to be COVID-19 friendly and was styled as a drive-in event.

By 6:15 p.m., the parking lot was packed with vehicles filled with folks eagerly anticipating the fireworks display, which was scheduled to start at 7 p.m. On the radio, a medley of holiday music played.

Shortly after 7 p.m., the first fireworks were launched from the Soldotna ball field, lighting up the parking lot with flashes of red, green and white.
